Our newborn sessions are designed to be calm, stress-free, and filled with love. Whether you’re a first-time parent or welcoming your newest little blessing into a growing family, this guide will help you feel relaxed, prepared, and excited for your session.

First of all… congratulations, beautiful mama and proud dad! Booking a newborn session is one of the best gifts you can give your family. These photos will become treasured memories you’ll look back on forever.
At Kat Alora Photography Studio in Cranbourne North, we take care of absolutely everything — styling, props, posing, soothing, and safety — so you can simply relax and enjoy the experience.
Before Your Session
Most newborn sessions are scheduled for 9:30am when babies are naturally sleepier. Please allow travel time and try to arrive on time so baby stays settled.
Our space is calm and peaceful, perfect for capturing relaxed, sleepy newborn portraits. Sessions are usually kept to parents (and siblings where planned), simply to keep the studio quiet and baby-focused.
A little preparation helps the session flow smoothly… and don’t worry, we’ll guide you every step of the way!
Session Day Tips
✔️ Feed baby just before you leave home
✔️ A light sponge bath and lotion helps baby feel sleepy and cosy
✔️ Dress baby in a simple zip-up onesie
✔️ Capsules or wrapped cuddles are perfect for bringing baby in
Whether baby sleeps all the way or stays awake, both are absolutely fine — we work completely at baby’s pace.
How Your Newborn Session Flows
Your newborn photography session is baby-led, gentle, and never rushed. Our warm studio environment helps baby relax, and we provide:
• Professional newborn props
• Wraps, outfits & headbands
• Blankets and styling
• Full posing & settling care
All you need to do is relax — sip a coffee, take a breath, maybe even nap!
Styling & Inspiration
If you have favourites from our portfolio, simply send 5–8 images before your session. We’ll plan colours, setups, and poses to suit your baby and your style.
Pinterest ideas are welcome — but safety always comes first, and every baby is different, so we always work gently and respectfully.
Siblings & Family Photos
Family photos are one of the most precious parts of newborn photography.
We normally photograph baby first, then bring siblings in later so little ones aren’t waiting around too long. Bring snacks, entertainment… and yes, we fully support treat-bribes!
What to Expect During the Session
Newborn sessions usually take 2–2.5 hours.
The studio is kept warm, babies sometimes wee, poo or dribble — totally normal and no stress at all!
You don’t need to bring outfits for baby; newborn beauty is simple, natural, and pure.
Safety First – Always
Your baby’s safety is our absolute priority. With experience photographing many newborns, we understand newborn comfort, movement, and posing. No unsafe positions, no forcing poses, ever. Just gentle posing, secure hands-on techniques, and total respect for your little one.
What to Bring
• Snacks & drinks
• Extra milk/bottles if feeding
• Spare clothes for parents
• Entertainment for siblings
• Dummy (optional but very helpful — we provide sterilised spares too)
What to Wear
Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully. Think:
White • Cream • Beige • Taupe • Grey • Soft blush • Sage • Dusty blue
Avoid logos or busy prints. Simple, soft, timeless = perfect.
A Final Loving Note
Soft makeup, comfy clothes, and relaxed hair are more than enough. You’ve just had a baby — you are already beautiful. Breathe, relax, and enjoy this quiet, precious time.
